Introduction to Quantitative Methods in Conflict Studies offers students an overview of core questions in conflict research and how to answer them using quantitative methods. These include questions such as: Does the abundance of natural resources cause civil war? Are democratic states more peaceful than others? What is the impact of development aid on conflict? To explore these and other topics, students will learn key theories and concepts in conflict studies, fundamental elements of research design, and the basics of causal inference. By the end of the course, students will be able to critically interpret quantitative findings and conduct their own empirical analyses. A basic knowledge of statistics and a willingness to learn R are required.
