Kommentar
This seminar explores the complex and evolving relationships between nature, technology, and society through a critical, social philosophical lens. Beginning with foundational reflections in Marx and extending through the Frankfurt School, media theory, and contemporary philosophical debates on climate change and artificial intelligence, the course investigates how technology both mediates and transforms social life, the labor process, and the environment. Key themes include the domination of nature, the ambivalence of productive forces, technological alienation, ecological crisis, and the anthropotechnical condition of humanity. We will engage classical and critical thinkers—Marx, Anders, Marcuse, Jonas, Plessner—as well as contemporary voices like Yuk Hui, Matteo Pasquinelli, and Donna Haraway. Special attention will be paid to ecological and feminist critiques of technology, the philosophical status of AI and automation, and the nuclear and climate threats that characterize our age.
