This course is designed to help students write clear and well-articulated argument and opinion essays using adequate academic vocabulary. Apart from designing overall essay plans (introduction- body – conclusion) on a variety of subjects, you will study the structure of arguments and the requisite language and structural tools to develop it.
Course Content: The course will focus on topics that are of interest to everyone and will involve discussion between all the course participants. A major mistake that many students make is not answering the question directly and including irrelevant or unsubstantiated evidence in their answer. We will focus on how to avoid these mistakes and to construct clear and substantive arguments to support your main points. Additionally, the issue of plagiarism will be clearly addressed. Emphasis will also be placed on how to organize your ideas and arguments. This will include how to paragraph effectively and clearly, link your ideas together coherently, and ensure your essay flows fluently. Last but not least, the course will develop more advanced grammar and vocabulary structures, especially the more formal structures required for essays.
